Harsh Life Lessons for the 20s

Reading through Quora there are a bunch of life lessons written by others with great insight borne from life experience. Summarised as below:

  • No one cares - the world is full of selfish people.
  • You are the result of your choices - choices made in your 20s have far-reaching implications for the rest of your life; choices in career, exercise, diet, and the like.
  • You only have to be right once - ignore your failures because no-one will remember them when you succeed; so take risks.
  • Studying doesn't finish at university - don't die at 25 and wait to be buried at 75; living involves learning and living without learning is stagnating.
  • Weaknesses do not matter - focus on your strengths and improve them, because those make the biggest difference. Focusing on weaknesses solely will cause you to become rather average.
  • Everything worth doing takes years - do NOT expect to attain goals too fast.
  • Broken relationships are not worth staying in.
  • There is always someone smart,er more motivated, prettier, richer or more precocious than you - compare yourself instead to your own potential.
